Foundations considers the solid ground upon which our beliefs, values and actions are built. Just as a physical structure relies on stability and support, our personal and collective foundations shape how we understand and navigate the world.
This exhibition brings together photographic works that explore both physical and emotional foundations, drawing attention to the often unseen structures that underpin people, identities and the places we inhabit.
My work was a continuation of my project, Walian
Walian is a photographic series that explores Cymru through architecture and dialect. The architectural subjects, significant to my heritage, stand as witnesses to the colonisation of Cymru. Alongside these images is an audio recording in the
Llanymawddwy dialect, the voice belongs to my great-grandmother. This recording serves as a stark reminder that, without preservation, we risk losing the ability to understand our ancestors. For me, the Welsh language and culture form the foundation of how I communicate and understand the world.
